Pioneer and Madison Scouts are looking great!! Very clean professional shows. I am surprised by how well Madison is performing so early in the season yet.

1 Madison Scouts 74.550
2 Colts 71.750
3 Blue Stars 68.500
4 Pioneer 56.750

Didn't get the scores for Cap Sound and Dutch Boy :-( Doesn't look like they are done with their drill yet. It was a great night, almost got rained out, had some wet seats but it dried up just in time for the show and the corps went on. Looking forward to Battle Creek. Maybe I'll even slip across the lake to a Wisconsin show this year.

[Drum Corps] Join a Drum Corps near you!

Participating with drum corps is a great experience. They teach discipline, dedication, commitment, and many essential life skills. Plus, you get to run around on a field full of people blowing your horn or beating your own drum in front of a crowd of people! It doesn't get much better than that!!

Several corps don't even require previous experience to join them. They will teach you what you need to know. There are two corps that I know of that need members right now.

Florida Brass, an alumni Drum and Bugle Corps. Florida Brass is a relaxed corps that is in it for fun and recreation. They do many parades and some parks. See attachement for details.

The other is Prairie Sound. Prairie Sound is trying to start up and requires more members and directors. http://prairiesound.homestead.com/ I have a note from the director here
----------------------------
We have 7 members currently. Our goal is to reach 35 marching members by July of 2007 when we hope to start competing in DCA activities.. We currently need a dedicated Brass instructor, Percussion Instructor, Color Guard Instructor and M&M Instructor. We have lots of openings in all sections.

Our Brass Players are currently working on musical pieces that will be part of our 2007 show. We will be practicing every month and will perform locally this fall in the Kansas City Metro Area. We are not limited to the Summer Drum Corps Season.

Jeff Dancinger,
Founder/Director of
Prairie Sound Drum & Bugle Corps.
----------------------------------

Drum Corps World has a great article here about new corps starting up: http://www.drumcorpsworld.com/articles.cfm?ID=484

Get in touch with any drum corps listed on the site, seach the web for "Drum Corps recruiting" or talk to someone who knows drum corps. Join a drum corps and have some summer fun!!

WOW!

That was a LOT of information to sort through to get those postings up!! Me and Matt have been pulling late nighters and working around the clock to go through it all.

Some things I have definately notice, MISSING INFORMATION!
It gets really difficult when information is missing or inacurate. Most of the stuff we have is pulled off of existing website. But we try to verify as much information as we can. Address mapping takes the most time by far. When people don't list an address for a stadium... that can take up to an hour just to get that. Most municiple stadiums are not listed in the phone book!! We can't just type the name in and get the location. We have resorted to searching the web to find conversations on them, Looking through peoples website courtesy of Google, to find Word documents people have posted with "directions to events". One time I even had to find a restaurant that gave the quote "Located across from so-and-so stadium" and find the address of the restaurant!!

One things that will definately get a better turn out is posting accurate information on the web. In my neighborhood, one of our stadiums is located on "Service Dr." If you MapQuest it, you won't find it. So it is worthless for me to list that as an address. If I give the name of the main street, "Chicago Dr." people will have no problems finding the event location in Jenison, MI. If you want more people to turn out at a show, make it easy for them to come! This one is going up in the Advice column... As soon as I get that up!

We have about 90% of Drum Corps shows (that we know of) listed now. One thing that we are running into, last minute submissions. :-( If the show is scheduled on the 19th, getting a notice of it on the 17th doesn't help much. With our current traffic only 100 people will see it listed in that time. Chances of someone close enough to see it? pretty slim.

But hey! on the plus side that traffic is nearly DOUBLING every week now!! Google bumped up our status one level this week! The more links we get to our site, the hight the status and more traffic through to the corps list and event list! Lets see how high we can get the turnouts at the shows and promote Drum Corps as a normal week-end activity.

[DCN] coming shows and events 2006

Lot of stuff going on this year. For the last several years I have been hearing about corps going inactive. This is the first time so many corps have come back from inactivation! And more are trying to start new corps!

This is great stuff. We already have events posted on the site http://www.drumcorpsnetwork.org/showlist.php
You can view the list of events, I'll add city and state to the show list so everyone will know where the show is.

Each event contains the list of corps, each corps listed has a link to that corps info and the list of shows they are competing in. One of our goals was to post extensive information on each corps like their history of wins, greatest triumps, time of establishment. But we don't have to! wikipedia now has a drumcorps section that does a very nice job of gathering information on old and even new corps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum_and_bugle_corps_(modern) and for the corps: http://www.drumcorpswiki.com/index.php/Drum_Corps you can seach them for current and old drumcorps.

I'm getting back to my programming but feel free to talk about all the great stuff going on this year. This thread is open for any replies on events!
